APGA Hosts Virtual Annual Meeting

The American Public Gas Association (APGA) held its first major virtual event on July 20-23 when it hosted its Annual Conference online. It originally had been scheduled for Chicago.

The conference opened with a presentation by APGA’s 2019-2020 Chairman, Samuel Davis, Jr., from Lake Apopka Natural Gas District. He gave an overview of his tenure as APGA Chairman, and announced the 2020 APGA Awards.

Dena Wiggins from the Natural Gas Supply Association followed with a presentation on natural gas supply and demand. Later in the day, Bethany Sims and Pawan Bhatia from the Porter Novelli agency provided an update on the consumer marketing campaign they manage for APGA, "Natural Gas Genius."

The second day of the virtual conference kicked off with a presentation by Canadian Gas Association President, Timothy Egan, who provided an update on Canada's natural gas industry and the challenges it is addressing.  Tuesday afternoon included an update by Reservoir Communications Group on its media relations work for association and a report by APGA President and CEO Dave Striver.

Activities during the remainder of the conference included an update on operations and safety by APGA staff and Wallace Jones, Alabama’s Director of the Gas Pipeline Safety Division and Chairman of the National Association of Pipeline Safety Representatives (NAPSR). Wallace provided a national perspective on the COVID-19 impacts to state pipeline safety programs and NAPSR’s 2020 priorities. In the afternoon, APGA staff shared details of the association's ongoing regulatory and legislative efforts.
